When your panel goes dark, all-in-one simplicity is what you need from a backup radio. The new PJ2 GPS delivers exactly that, with built-in communications and GPS navigation all in a pilot-friendly design. Even better, it can now send GPS position data straight to ForeFlight, giving you a simple backup navigation option in the app you already use—even if your iPad doesn’t have a built-in GPS.
Linking the PJ2 GPS is quick and easy, and does not require a firmware update or an additional subscription.
Configuration
- First, turn on Bluetooth for the PJ2 GPS. With your radio powered on, start by pressing the MENU key on the keypad.
- Use the DOWN key to scroll down to BLUETOOTH and press ENTER.
- Scroll to On/Off, then press ENTER. Then scroll down to On and press ENTER. Bluetooth mode has now been turned on.
- Next, scroll down to Output GPS Data and press ENTER.
- Scroll down to On, then press ENTER. This will put the PJ2 GPS in a specific pairing mode that allows ForeFlight to utilize the GPS position. You can also confirm the PJ2 GPS is actively connected by looking for the GPS output icon at the top of the PJ2 GPS screen, shown with three flashing waves.
- Now that the proper Bluetooth modes have been configured, open up ForeFlight, tap the More tab, then tap Devices. You should now see that your PJ2 GPS is connected, indicated by the green checkmark
Important: do not connect to the PJ2 GPS using the default iOS Settings app; the Bluetooth connection must be made directly in ForeFlight.
For best results, make sure your ForeFlight app is up to date before connecting (version 18.5 or later). Once connected, your PJ2 GPS is ready to share position data with ForeFlight when you need it, adding one more layer of backup capability without adding extra complexity in the cockpit. If you do not fly with ForeFlight, the PJ2 GPS still includes a built-in waypoint navigator for simple backup navigation.
