Arkansas student pilot nears checkride with renewed focus on flight training
For Addison Morgan, aviation has long been part of the background—but in late 2024, at a crossroads in his career, it moved to the forefront. Now nearing his Private Pilot checkride, Addison has been awarded Sporty’s $2,500 Pilot Training+ Scholarship to help him complete the final cross-country requirements of his training.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Addison grew up surrounded by the aviation industry. Friends and neighbors had ties to airline and cargo operations, including many connected to FedEx, while family members served as military pilots. Those early influences planted the seed, even as Addison pursued a career in sales.
After graduating from the University of Arkansas, Addison built a career managing media sales across the state. While he once considered aviation professionally, he now sees flying as a long-term personal pursuit—one that offers both challenge and fulfillment outside of work.
Training out of the Bentonville Municipal Airport (KVBT) in a Cessna 172, Addison has made steady progress, recently completing his FAA knowledge test and night flight requirements. With only a solo cross-country remaining, he is firmly in the final phase before his checkride.
Like many student pilots, Addison has balanced training with real-world responsibilities, including stepping away temporarily to support family members in need. Now back on track, he plans to use the scholarship to remain consistent and finish strong.
“Frequency is key to competency,” he said. “My goal is to stay current and be fully prepared for the demands of the checkride.”
Sporty’s Pilot Training+ is an all-inclusive membership that unlocks Sporty’s complete library of award-winning, video-based courses for one annual fee. Membership also includes the opportunity to apply for three $2,500 scholarships, awarded annually.
