Scenario-based VFR and IFR proficiency training now available across multiple platforms
Sporty’s and PilotWorkshops have expanded their training partnership once again with the addition of VFR Mastery and IFR Mastery to the Sporty’s Pilot Training platform, delivering ongoing scenario-based proficiency training for pilots both online and via the dedicated Pilot Training app for iOS. Long regarded as one of aviation’s most respected continuing education programs, the PilotWorkshops Mastery series helps pilots sharpen real-world decision-making skills through interactive monthly scenarios focused on both VFR and IFR flying.

Unlike traditional video courses, the Mastery programs immerse pilots in realistic flight situations that require evaluating weather, aircraft performance, charts, regulations, airport information, and operational risks before choosing a course of action. Each scenario then includes detailed instructor analysis and roundtable discussions, featuring experienced flight instructors who often debate different approaches and techniques.
“Mastery has always been about helping pilots build judgment and confidence through realistic flying scenarios,” said PilotWorkshops Founder Mark Robidoux. “Bringing that experience into the Sporty’s Pilot Training app makes it easier than ever for pilots to stay proficient wherever they are.”
This new integration also adds several app-based features, designed to make recurrent training more accessible and convenient. Pilots can now download scenarios for offline viewing, listen to instructor roundtable discussions using background audio and Apple CarPlay support, save favorite scenarios for later review, and browse the extensive Mastery archive from within the app, which now includes more than 280 VFR and IFR scenarios. In addition, completed scenarios qualify for FAA WINGS credit, with automatic credit processing handled directly through the platform.
VFR Mastery focuses on visual flying scenarios involving weather decisions, airspace, airport operations, and risk management, while IFR Mastery challenges instrument pilots with realistic IFR procedures, weather interpretation, cockpit workload management, and in-flight decision making. New scenarios are added monthly, giving pilots an ongoing way to stay mentally engaged between flights and to continue building proficiency long after earning a certificate or rating.
The VFR Mastery and IFR Mastery series are available now inside the Sporty’s Pilot Training platform. Existing PilotWorkshops subscribers can access the content using their current login credentials, and new users can explore free sample scenarios before starting a subscription. Subscriptions are just $19 per month for VFR Mastery and $24 per month for IFR Mastery.
